About Me
I’ve been singing since the age of 5 when my older brother gave me his Beatles White album, and then Abbey Road and Rubber Soul, too. I learned all the words to my favorite songs and secretly dreamed of singing to the cute little girl next door. Singing in public didn’t really happen until college when I auditioned for a band, and then joined the church choir. I’ve been singing in public ever since. Ten years singing rock cover tunes with the Amoebas of Doom, and most recently singing my original songs with LL&PFP have been lifelong goals I am happy to have realized. I started playing acoustic guitar in my teens when my father gave me his “Sears Special” guitar. I honestly don’t know what brand of guitar it was. He painted the soundboard white with flecks of gold glitter! So I had a guitar and a voice, and life ahead of me. Songwriting came much later when the Muse finally kicked in my door and asked me what the hell I was waiting for!
I approach songwriting with melodic intent and a story to discover. Words, melodies or chord progressions present scaffolding to construct the song. Sometimes a song is a mystery until fully formed, other times it’s purposeful from the beginning. There’s no wrong way to approach it, really; just let your inspirations flow. In my case songs have been influenced by a lifetime of musical genres, but they have coalesced around folk, indie, jazz, blues and country. I try not to corral a song, but let it roam until it’s reached its fences.
